Office Action

§112
DETAILED ACTION This non-final Office action is in response to the claims filed on January 12, 2026. Status of claims: claims 2-6 and 16 are cancelled; claims 1, 7-15 and 17 are hereby examined below. Notice of Pre-AIA or AIA Status The present application, filed on or after March 16, 2013, is being examined under the first inventor to file provisions of the AIA . Continued Examination Under 37 CFR 1.114 A request for continued examination under 37 CFR 1.114, including the fee set forth in 37 CFR 1.17(e), was filed in this application after final rejection. Since this application is eligible for continued examination under 37 CFR 1.114, and the fee set forth in 37 CFR 1.17(e) has been timely paid, the finality of the previous Office action has been withdrawn pursuant to 37 CFR 1.114. Applicant's submission filed on January 12, 2026 has been entered. Drawings The drawings remain objected to because: The replacement FIGS. 2 and 3 filed 6/3/2024 are very unclear and require revision. Corrected drawing sheets in compliance with 37 CFR 1.121(d) are required in reply to the Office action to avoid abandonment of the application. Any amended replacement drawing sheet should include all of the figures appearing on the immediate prior version of the sheet, even if only one figure is being amended. The figure or figure number of an amended drawing should not be labeled as “amended.” If a drawing figure is to be canceled, the appropriate figure must be removed from the replacement sheet, and where necessary, the remaining figures must be renumbered and appropriate changes made to the brief description of the several views of the drawings for consistency. Additional replacement sheets may be necessary to show the renumbering of the remaining figures. Each drawing sheet submitted after the filing date of an application must be labeled in the top margin as either “Replacement Sheet” or “New Sheet” pursuant to 37 CFR 1.121(d). If the changes are not accepted by the examiner, the applicant will be notified and informed of any required corrective action in the next Office action. The objection to the drawings will not be held in abeyance. Claim Interpretation The following is a quotation of 35 U.S.C. 112(f): (f) Element in Claim for a Combination. – An element in a claim for a combination may be expressed as a means or step for performing a specified function without the recital of structure, material, or acts in support thereof, and such claim shall be construed to cover the corresponding structure, material, or acts described in the specification and equivalents thereof. The following is a quotation of pre-AIA 35 U.S.C. 112, sixth paragraph: An element in a claim for a combination may be expressed as a means or step for performing a specified function without the recital of structure, material, or acts in support thereof, and such claim shall be construed to cover the corresponding structure, material, or acts described in the specification and equivalents thereof. This application includes one or more claim limitations that use the word “means” or “step,” in this case – the “stiffening means” recited in claim 1, but is nonetheless not being interpreted under 35 U.S.C. 112(f) or pre-AIA 35 U.S.C. 112, sixth paragraph because the claim limitation fails to recite any functionality after “means,” as is required for proper 35 USC 112(f) recitations. Claim Objections Claim 7 is objected to because of the following informalities: Claim 7, line 1 – shouldn’t “A vehicle window” be amended to “The vehicle window” since the window is previously recited in claim 1? Claim 7, line 2 – shouldn’t “a first surface” and “a second surface” be amended to “the first surface” and “the second surface” since both are previously recited in claim 1? Appropriate correction is required. Allowable Subject Matter Claims 1, 7-15 and 17 are allowed. Response to Arguments Note: applicant’s response filed January 12, 2026 fails to address all of the prior drawing objections. Hence, the drawing objections remain. Applicant's arguments filed January 12, 2026 have been fully considered and are persuasive. Conclusion The prior art made of record and not relied upon is considered pertinent to applicant's disclosure.
