Office Action

§102 §112
DETAILED ACTION Notice of Pre-AIA or AIA Status The present application, filed on or after March 16, 2013, is being examined under the first inventor to file provisions of the AIA . This office action is a response to the amendment filed on 7/28/2026. Election/Restrictions Applicant’s election without traverse of Group I, Species A, claims 1-6, 8-11 and 14 in the reply filed on 7/28/2026 is acknowledged. Claims 7, 12, 13 and 15-20 are withdrawn from further consideration pursuant to 37 CFR 1.142(b) as being drawn to a nonelected invention, there being no allowable generic or linking claim. Election was made without traverse in the reply filed on 7/28/2026. Specification The title of the invention is not descriptive. A new title is required that is clearly indicative of the invention to which the claims are directed. The following title is suggested: --MASS TRANSFER SYSTEM--. Claim Objections Claims 1-6, 8-11 and 14 are objected to because of the following informalities: Re. claim 1: The phrase “perform position calibration on the microLED” as recited in lines 7-8 appears to be --perform a position calibration on the microLED--. The phrase “through electrical control” as recited in line 10 appears to be --through an electrical control--. Appropriate correction is required. Claim Rejections - 35 USC § 112 The following is a quotation of 35 U.S.C. 112(b): (b) CONCLUSION.—The specification shall conclude with one or more claims particularly pointing out and distinctly claiming the subject matter which the inventor or a joint inventor regards as the invention. The following is a quotation of 35 U.S.C. 112 (pre-AIA ), second paragraph: The specification shall conclude with one or more claims particularly pointing out and distinctly claiming the subject matter which the applicant regards as his invention. Claims 1-6, 8-11 and 14 are rejected under 35 U.S.C. 112(b) or 35 U.S.C. 112 (pre-AIA ), second paragraph, as being indefinite for failing to particularly point out and distinctly claim the subject matter which the inventor or a joint inventor (or for applications subject to pre-AIA 35 U.S.C. 112, the applicant), regards as the invention. Re. claim 1: The phrase “a plurality of microLEDs” as recited in line 4 renders the claim vague and indefinite. It is unclear as to whether the plurality of microLEDs are the same “micro light-emitting diodes (microLEDs)” as recited in line 1 or not. Clarification is required. The phrase “the microLED” as recited in line 8 lacks antecedent basis. Re. claim 2: The phrase “a calibration point of the calibration points” as recited in lines 2-3 renders the claim vague and indefinite. It is unclear as to whether the calibration point of the calibration points is the same “one calibration point of the calibration points” as recited in lines 6-7 of claim 1 or not. Clarification is required. Re. claim 10: The phrase “the calibration point” as recited in line 3 lacks antecedent basis. Claim Rejections - 35 USC § 102 The following is a quotation of the appropriate paragraphs of 35 U.S.C. 102 that form the basis for the rejections under this section made in this Office action: A person shall be entitled to a patent unless – (a)(2) the claimed invention was described in a patent issued under section 151, or in an application for patent published or deemed published under section 122(b), in which the patent or application, as the case may be, names another inventor and was effectively filed before the effective filing date of the claimed invention. Claim 1 is rejected under 35 U.S.C. 102(a)(2) as being anticipated by Huang et al. (US PAT. 12,666,756). Huang et al. teach a mass transfer system for transferring micro light-emitting diodes (microLEDs) to an array substrate, wherein the mass transfer system comprises a transfer device (1002, Fig. 10 (a) and a calibration device (0105,0107,0108, Fig. 10 (c)); wherein the transfer device is configured to absorb a plurality of microLEDs (016, Fig. 10(a)) and transfer the microLEDs to the calibration device as shown in Figs. 10(a)-(b); PNG media_image1.png 328 838 media_image1.png Greyscale the calibration device comprises a plurality of calibration points, wherein one calibration point of the calibration points is configured to absorb one microLED of the microLEDs and perform position calibration on the microLED as shown in Fig. Fig. 10 (c); and PNG media_image2.png 188 846 media_image2.png Greyscale the calibration device is further configured to transfer the microLEDs to the array substrate through electrical control as shown in Fig. 10 (f). PNG media_image3.png 204 844 media_image3.png Greyscale Allowable Subject Matter Claim 2 would be allowable if rewritten to overcome the rejection(s) under 35 U.S.C. 112(b) or 35 U.S.C. 112 (pre-AIA ), 2nd paragraph, set forth in this Office action and to include all of the limitations of the base claim and any intervening claims. Claims 3-6, 8-11 and 14 are objected to as being dependent upon a rejected base claim, but would be allowable if rewritten in independent form including all of the limitations of the base claim and any intervening claims. The Prior Art The prior art made of record and not relied upon is considered pertinent to applicant's disclosure. Chaji (PGPub 2017/0215280 A1), Chaji et al. (US PAT. 12,080,685), Bibl al. (US PAT. 9,773,750), and Schuele et al. (US PAT. 11,990,453) are cited to further show the state of the art with respect to a mass transfer system for transferring micro light-emitting diodes (microLEDs) to an array substrate.
