DETAILED ACTION
Notice of Pre-AIA or AIA Status
The present application, filed on or after March 16, 2013, is being examined under the first inventor to file provisions of the AIA .
Status of the Application
Applicant's election with traverse of Group I, drawn to a compound of formula I, and the species election, in the reply filed on 4/21/26 is acknowledged. The traversal is on the grounds that compounds of formula I makes a contribution over the prior art. This is not found persuasive because as shown below, the compounds of formula I do not make a contribution over the prior art. The requirement is still deemed proper and is therefore made FINAL. It is noted that Group II, drawn to a compound of formula II, will not be rejoined with Group I, drawn to a compound of formula I, since Group II is a subset of Group I.
Claims 1-17 are pending. Claims 3-7, 9-17 have been withdrawn from further consideration pursuant to 37 CFR 1.142(b), as being drawn to a nonelected invention, there being no allowable generic or linking claim. Claims 1-2, 8 are examined herein insofar as they read on the elected invention and species (below).

A search has been performed on the elected species, which was found free of the prior art. The search will now be expanded and another species will be selected for examination. With regard to the expanded species selected by examiner for examination, claim 2 has been withdrawn from further consideration as being drawn to a non-elected species. Claims 1 and 8 are examined herein insofar as they read on the elected invention and the expanded species.
Claim Rejections - 35 USC § 102
The following is a quotation of the appropriate paragraphs of 35 U.S.C. 102 that form the basis for the rejections under this section made in this Office action:
A person shall be entitled to a patent unless –
(a)(1) the claimed invention was patented, described in a printed publication, or in public use, on sale or otherwise available to the public before the effective filing date of the claimed invention.
Claims 1 and 8 are rejected under 35 U.S.C. 102(a)(1) as being anticipated by Skeggs et al. (“Kinetics of the reaction of renin with nine synthetic peptide substrates,” Journal of Experimental Medicine, 1968, 128, 1, 13-34).
Skeggs et al. teach the reaction between renin and nine synthetic peptide substrates (title). The synthesis of the below compound is shown from an aqueous workup (page 20, second full paragraph, analysis: C36H52N4O8).
