Office Action

§102
DETAILED ACTION The present application, filed on or after March 16, 2013, is being examined under the first inventor to file provisions of the AIA . The office acknowledges the receipt of applicants’ response to the restriction requirement dated 07/23/2026. PNG media_image1.png 298 632 media_image1.png Greyscale A search of the prior art did not show the elected species. As no claims where specifically drawn to applicants’ elected species in independent form, no claims have been indicated as allowable. Claims written in independent form which require all the limitations of the elected species along with any dependent claims which require all the limitations of the elected species would be allowable. Under MPEP 803.02, the search was expanded to find an examinable species. Examinable Species The examinable species is represented by BOUD-pg71 (page 71): PNG media_image2.png 218 386 media_image2.png Greyscale BOUD-pg71 reads on claims 1-7, 10-11, 13-14, 17-20. Claims 8-9, 12, 15-16 are withdrawn as not reading on the examinable species. Claim Rejections - 35 USC § 102 The following is a quotation of the appropriate paragraphs of 35 U.S.C. 102 that form the basis for the rejections under this section made in this Office action: A person shall be entitled to a patent unless – (a)(1) the claimed invention was patented, described in a printed publication, or in public use, on sale or otherwise available to the public before the effective filing date of the claimed invention. Claim(s) 1-7, 10-11, 13-14, 17-20 are rejected under 35 U.S.C. 102(a)(1) as being anticipated by BOUDREAULT (US 20200227659 A1). Regarding Claims 1-7, 10-11, 13-14, BOUDREAULT teaches an iridium complex represented by BOUD-pg71 (page 71): PNG media_image2.png 218 386 media_image2.png Greyscale BOUD-pg71 reads on applicants’ Formula 1 wherein Ring A =aza-dibenzothiophene; RA = di-trifluoromethyl-propyl; Ring B = naphthene; RB = Hx = 2; y=1; c = 0; Z1 = N; (per claims 1-7). LA = PNG media_image3.png 188 108 media_image3.png Greyscale , RA = di-trifluoromethyl-propyl, X(s) = C; Ring A =aza-dibenzothiophene; X5 = RA = di-trifluoromethyl-propyl (per claim 10) A = PNG media_image4.png 210 188 media_image4.png Greyscale , RAA = di-trifluoromethyl-propyl; X(s) = C; X10 =RAA = di-trifluoromethyl-propyl; YA1 = S; RBB = t-butyl (per claim 11). The complex reads on Ir (LA)2(LB) (per claim 13). The complex reads on PNG media_image5.png 198 164 media_image5.png Greyscale K1 = direct bond; Y1-Y10 = C; Rb = t-butyl; RAA= di-trifluoromethyl-propyl (per claim 14). Regarding Claims 17-20, OLED comprising a first organic layer that contains a compound as disclosed in the above compounds section of the present disclosure. In some embodiments, the OLED comprises: an anode; a cathode; and an organic layer disposed between the anode and the cathode, wherein the organic layer comprises a compound comprising a ligand (paragraph 110) (per claim 17). The organic layer may also have a host comprising at least one chemical group selected from the group consisting of triphenylene, carbazole, dibenzothiophene, dibenzofuran, dibenzoselenophene, azatriphenylene, azacarbazole, aza-dibenzothiophene, aza-dibenzofuran, and aza-dibenzoselenophene. A specific example can be represented by (paragraph 120): PNG media_image6.png 220 348 media_image6.png Greyscale (per claims 18-19). The OLED can be incorporated into one or more of a consumer product, an electronic component module, and a lighting panel (paragraph 118) (per claim 20).
