Office Action

§102
Notice of Pre-AIA or AIA Status The present application, filed on or after March 16, 2013, is being examined under the first inventor to file provisions of the AIA . DETAILED ACTION Specification The specification is objected to. As shown in Applicants pre-grant publication US 2024/0188437, there are several structural deficiencies due to poor quality. Specifically, compound labels 1-160 and 1-240 are illegible. Additionally, many of the structures in Tables 1, 2, 3, and 4 are illegible. There is also illegible text in paragraphs 0289 and 0302. Applicants should submit clearer chemical structures and text where necessary to overcome these objections. Claim Objections As shown in Applicants pre-grant publication, there are several structural deficiencies in claim 7 due to poor quality. Specifically, compounds 1-86, 1-124, 1-160, 1-161, 1-173, 1-174, 1-303, and 1-320 have structural deficiencies. Applicants should submit clearer chemical structures where necessary to overcome this objection. Claim Rejections - 35 USC § 102 The following is a quotation of the appropriate paragraphs of 35 U.S.C. 102 that form the basis for the rejections under this section made in this Office action: A person shall be entitled to a patent unless – (a)(1) the claimed invention was patented, described in a printed publication, or in public use, on sale or otherwise available to the public before the effective filing date of the claimed invention. Claims 1-6, 10, 11, and 13-17 are rejected under 35 U.S.C. 102(a)(1) as being anticipated by Kim et al. (WO-2022086297). Copies of the original and a machine translation of Kim et al. are included with this Office action. Claim 1: Kim et al. teaches organic light-emitting devices which are exemplified to include an anode, a hole injection layer, a hole transport layer, an electron blocking layer, an emission layer comprising a first host material, a second host material, and a dopant, a hole blocking layer, an electron transport layer, an electron injection layer, and a cathode (paragraphs 0917-0918). Device example 22 as shown on page 248 employs compound 1-11 as a first host material and compound 2-11 as a second host material. Compound 1-11 has the structure PNG media_image1.png 88 80 media_image1.png Greyscale (page 193). This compound satisfies Chemical Formula 1 of claim 1. As applied to Chemical Formula 1, compound 1-11 has R1 through R6 equal to hydrogen, X equal to O, a and b equal to zero (L1 and L2 are direct bonds), t1 and p equal to 1, N-Het equal to a 3-phenyl-5-dibenzofuranyltriazinyl group, and Z1 equal to an unsubstituted naphthyl group. Compound 2-11 has the structure PNG media_image2.png 110 78 media_image2.png Greyscale (page 229). This compound satisfies Chemical Formula 2 of claim 1. As applied to Chemical Formula 2, compound 2-11 has Y equal to O, d equal to zero (L4 equal to a direct bond), q equal to 1, Z2 equal to an -N(phenyl)(biphenyl) group, r and s equal to zero, c equal to zero (L3 equal to a direct bond), t2 equal to 1, and N-Het2 equal to a polycyclic C16 heteroaryl group which is unsubstituted and includes one nitrogen atom. Claim 2: Compound 1-11 as shown above also satisfies Chemical Formula 1-2 with all variable assignments being described in claim 1 above. Claim 3: Variable N-Het in compound 1-11 as shown above satisfies Chemical Formula 3 with X1, X3, and X5 equal to N, X2 equal to CR12, X4 equal to CR14, CR12 equal to phenyl, and CR14 equal to dibenzofuranyl. Additionally, in compound 1-11, Chemical Formula 3 is represented by Chemical Formula 3-1 with X6-X8 equal to N, R61 equal to phenyl, and R62 equal to dibenzofuranyl. Claim 5: In compound 1-11 shown above, variable Z1 is equal to an unsubstituted naphthyl group, which satisfies claim 5. Claim 6: In compound 1-11 as shown above, the deuterium content is 0%, which satisfies claim 6. Claim 10: Compound 2-11 as shown above satisfies Chemical Formula 5 with Ar1 equal to phenyl and Ar2 equal to biphenyl with all variable assignments being described in claim 1 above. Claim 11: In compound 2-11 as shown above, the deuterium content is 0%, which satisfies claim 11. Claims 13-15: Device example 22 as described above also satisfies the device limitations of claims 13-15 as described in claim 1 above. Claims 16 and 17: The rejection of claim 1 above is wholly incorporated into the rejection of claim 16. Kim et al. explicitly teaches that the first host material, the second host material, and the dopant material are deposited together via vapor deposition onto the electron blocking layer in a 49:49:2 ratio, respectively (paragraphs 917-918). As such, Kim et al. explicitly teaches a composition comprising compounds 1-11 and 2-11, which satisfies a composition comprising a compound which satisfies Chemical Formula 1 and a compound which satisfies Chemical Formula 2. These two compounds are present in a 1:1 ratio, which also satisfies claim 17. Allowable Subject Matter Claims 7-9 and 12 are objected to as being dependent upon a rejected base claim but would be allowable if rewritten in independent form including all the limitations of the base claim and any intervening claims. The second host materials of Kim et al., which includes compound 2-11, are mutually exclusive from the structural requirements of claims 8 and 9. Additionally, Kim et al. does not teach the specific compounds as recited in claims 7 and 12.
