Office Action

§102 §Other
CTNF 18/374,984 CTNF 78613 DETAILED ACTION 1. This is the first action on the merits relating to U.S. Application Serial No. 18/374,984 filed on September 29, 2023. Currently claims 1-17 remain in the examination. Notice of Pre-AIA or AIA Status 07-03-aia AIA 15-10-aia 2. The present application, filed on or after March 16, 2013, is being examined under the first inventor to file provisions of the AIA. Priority 3. Receipt is acknowledged of papers submitted under 35 U.S.C. 119(a)-(d), which papers have been placed of record in the file. Also see paragraph [0001] of the specification. Drawings 4. Drawings originally filed on September 29, 2023 are approved. Claim Rejections - 35 USC § 102 07-06 AIA 15-10-15 5. In the event the determination of the status of the application as subject to AIA 35 U.S.C. 102 and 103 (or as subject to pre-AIA 35 U.S.C. 102 and 103) is incorrect, any correction of the statutory basis (i.e., changing from AIA to pre-AIA) for the rejection will not be considered a new ground of rejection if the prior art relied upon, and the rationale supporting the rejection, would be the same under either status. 07-07-aia AIA 07-07 6. The following is a quotation of the appropriate paragraphs of 35 U.S.C. 102 that form the basis for the rejections under this section made in this Office action: A person shall be entitled to a patent unless – 07-08-aia AIA (a)(1) the claimed invention was patented, described in a printed publication, or in public use, on sale, or otherwise available to the public before the effective filing date of the claimed invention. 07-15 AIA 7. Claim s 1, 2, 7-10, 12, and 13 are rejected under 35 U.S.C. 102( a)(1 ) as being anticipated by US 2023/0015182 A1 to Shune et al. (hereinafter “Shune”) . Regarding claim 1, Shune discloses a vehicle to vehicle charging system (see paragraph 0002) comprising energy-source vehicle 1a (see figures 1, 2, 4 and paragraph 0034 and thereafter), which is referred as a supply vehicle in the claim and energy-receiving vehicle 1b, referred as a target vehicle wherein the energy-source vehicle 1a compresses a controller 6a – a discharge controller (see figure 2 and paragraph 0041 and thereafter) and the energy-receiving vehicle comprises a controller 6b – a charge controller; a charge cable 10 (see figures 1-3 and paragraphs 0035 and 0037) connecting the supply vehicle and the target vehicle; and the charge power can be set to a maximum value (see paragraph 0042); and the controllers for the both vehicles 6a and 6b can set the maximum volage for the respective vehicles (see paragraphs 0056, 0042, 0043, and 0050). It is inherent that the connecting cable can handle the voltage that the controllers of the vehicles set. Regarding claim 2, in transferring the power, the first vehicle and the second vehicle can choose lesser of the power transfer limit value (or maximum) (see paragraphs 0007, 0010, and 0043). Regarding claims 7, 9 and 13, as shown in figure 2, the vehicles 1a and 1b comprise a connection ports 11a and 11b to receive the connecting cable (see figure 2, 3, and paragraphs 0034 and 0036). Regarding claims 8 and 12, see the description for claims 1 and 2 above. Regarding claim 10, as shown in figure 2, each vehicle 1a and 1b is comprised of a battery 2a and 2b (see figure 2 and paragraph 0034 and thereafter) . Allowable Subject Matter 12-151-08 AIA 07-43 12-51-08 8. Claim s 3-6, 11, and 14-17 are objected to as being dependent upon a rejected base claim, but would be allowable if rewritten in independent form including all of the limitations of the base claim and any intervening claims. 13-03-01 AIA 9. The following is a statement of reasons for the indication of allowable subject matter: Claims are directed at a vehicle to vehicle charging system. Claim is limited to a system for setting current capacity of a charging cable for supply of battery power from one electric vehicle to another electric vehicle, the system comprising: a discharge controller provided in a supply vehicle to discharge a battery of the supply vehicle to supply battery power to a target vehicle; a charge controller provided in the target vehicle to charge a battery of the target vehicle with battery power supplied from the supply vehicle; and a charging cable part configured to electrically connect the supply vehicle and the target vehicle, wherein the discharge controller is configured to perform control so that a discharging current of the charging cable part is set by detecting an allowable charging current of the charging cable part connected to the supply vehicle and comparing the allowable charging current with a predetermined maximum current outputtable from the supply vehicle wherein the discharge controller is configured to: measure a voltage applied to a resistor inserted into a first connector of the charging cable part connected to the supply vehicle, and detect the allowable charging current using the measured voltage. Such a system is neither disclosed nor suggested by the cited references. Above is a combination of claims 1 and 3, as an example. The limitations in other objected claims are also allowable. Conclusion The pertinent prior arts made of record but not relied are listed in the attached form PTO-892. These are considered pertinent to Applicant's disclosure. Applicant is respectfully suggested to carefully review these references.
