Claim Rejections - 35 USC § 102
The following is a quotation of the appropriate paragraphs of 35 U.S.C. 102 that form the basis for the rejections under this section made in this Office action:
A person shall be entitled to a patent unless –
(a)(1) the claimed invention was patented, described in a printed publication, or in public use, on sale, or otherwise available to the public before the effective filing date of the claimed invention.
Claims 1-8 and 12-21 are rejected under 35 U.S.C. 102(a)(1) as being anticipated by CN 113461627 A1 to Zhang et al. (see attached machine-generated English-language translation).
Regarding claim 1, Zhang et al. discloses an OLED wherein the EML comprises a host material typified by the following compound:

.
This compound is representative of the claimed compound wherein Ar1 = biphenyl substituted with diphenyltriazinyl, L1 = direct bond, L2 = phenylene, Ar2 = phenyl and Ar3 = H. Note that the term “substituted” in claim 1 is defined in the specification (paragraph [0045]) as including an aryl group that may be further substituted. Claim 1 is therefore unpatentable for being anticipated. See MPEP § 2131.02(II). So are claims 2-4 and 7-8. The compound is representative of formula 4-1 in claim 5 wherein R11 is a substituted aryl group. It also reads on formula 5-2 of claim 6. Claims 12-21 are unpatentable for the same reasons.
Claims 1-23 are rejected under 35 U.S.C. 102(a)(1) as being anticipated by US 2019/0039996 A1 to Takada et al.
Regarding claim 1, Takada et al. discloses an OLED wherein the hole transport layer comprises a triarylamine typified by the following compound on page 8:

.
This compound is representative of the claimed compound wherein Ar1 = aryl, L1 = phenylene, L2 = direct bond, Ar2 = phenyl, R1 = Ar3 = H, two adjacent R2 combined to form a ring. Claim 1 is therefore unpatentable for being anticipated. So are claims 2-22. The compound is identical to compound DH10 in claim 23.
