Office Action

§102
Notice of Pre-AIA or AIA Status The present application, filed on or after March 16, 2013, is being examined under the first inventor to file provisions of the AIA . Specification The lengthy specification has not been checked to the extent necessary to determine the presence of all possible minor errors. Applicant’s cooperation is requested in correcting any errors of which applicant may become aware in the specification. Claim Objections Claims 4 and 5 are objected to because of the following informalities: Claim 4, line 3, “the inverter” should correctly be “the load independent inverter”. Claim 5, line 1, “the amplifier” should correctly be “the switched-mode ZVS amplifier”. Appropriate correction is required. Claim Rejections - 35 USC § 102 In the event the determination of the status of the application as subject to AIA 35 U.S.C. 102 and 103 (or as subject to pre-AIA 35 U.S.C. 102 and 103) is incorrect, any correction of the statutory basis (i.e., changing from AIA to pre-AIA ) for the rejection will not be considered a new ground of rejection if the prior art relied upon, and the rationale supporting the rejection, would be the same under either status. The following is a quotation of the appropriate paragraphs of 35 U.S.C. 102 that form the basis for the rejections under this section made in this Office action: A person shall be entitled to a patent unless – (a)(1) the claimed invention was patented, described in a printed publication, or in public use, on sale, or otherwise available to the public before the effective filing date of the claimed invention. (a)(2) the claimed invention was described in a patent issued under section 151, or in an application for patent published or deemed published under section 122(b), in which the patent or application, as the case may be, names another inventor and was effectively filed before the effective filing date of the claimed invention. Claim(s) 1 is/are rejected under 35 U.S.C. 102(a)(2) as being anticipated by Aldhaher et al. (applicant’s admitted IDS, 10/30/23), hereafter called ALDHAHER. Regarding claim 1, ALDHAHER (Fig. 2) discloses a transmitter comprising: a load independent inverter comprising a switched mode zero-voltage switching (ZVS) amplifier, see section III; and a transmitter coil (L3) or electrodes connected to the load independent inverter, the transmitter coil or electrodes configured to transfer power to a receiver via magnetic or electric field coupling, see section I. Claim(s) 1-4 and 20 is/are rejected under 35 U.S.C. 102(a)(1) as being anticipated by Riehl et al. (20170302110), hereafter called RIEHL. Regarding claim 1, RIEHL (Fig. 2) discloses a transmitter comprising: a load independent inverter (3) comprising a switched mode zero-voltage switching (ZVS) amplifier, see para. [0036]; and a transmitter coil (LCCS of Fig. 3) or electrodes connected to the load independent inverter (3) configured to transfer power to a receiver via magnetic or electric field coupling (10 and 12 of Fig. 2). Regarding claim 2, wherein the transmitter (1) is non-resonant or not self- resonant, see inductor (10 of Figure 2). Regarding claim 3, wherein the transmitter coil is configured to transfer power via magnetic field coupling, or wherein the transmitter electrodes are configured to transfer power via electric field coupling (coils (10 and 12) of Figure 2). Regarding claim 4, wherein the transmitter further comprises a power source input to voltage source (2) and, wherein the transmitter further comprises a power converter (2) configured to convert a power signal from the power source prior to receipt by the load independent inverter (3). Regarding claim 20, RIEHL (Figs, 2 and 3) discloses a wireless power system (100) comprising: a transmitter (1) comprising: a load independent inverter (3) comprising a switched mode zero-voltage switching (ZVS) amplifier, see [0036]; and a transmitter coil (LCCS of Fig. 3) or electrodes connected to the load independent inverter, the transmitter coil or electrodes configured to transfer power to a receiver (11) via magnetic or electric field coupling (10 and 12 of Fig. 2); and the receiver inherently seen comprising: a receiver coil or electrodes configured to extract power from the receiver via magnetic or electric field coupling. Allowable Subject Matter Claims 5-19 are objected to as being dependent upon a rejected base claim, but would be allowable if rewritten in independent form including all of the limitations of the base claim and any intervening claims. The following is a statement of reasons for the indication of allowable subject matter: Regarding claims 5-19, prior art(s) does not disclose the switched-mode ZVS amplifier comprises: a pair of circuits arranged in parallel, each circuit comprising: at least a transistor and at least a capacitor arranged in parallel; and at least an inductor arranged in series with the transistor and capacitor; only one ZVS inductor connected to the pair of circuits; and at least one capacitor connected to the ZVS inductor and arranged in series with at least an inductor and at least a resistor. Conclusion The prior art made of record and not relied upon is considered pertinent to applicant's disclosure. The additional reference(s) cited in PTO-892 show further analogous prior art circuitry.
