Claim Rejections - 35 USC § 102
The following is a quotation of the appropriate paragraphs of 35 U.S.C. 102 that form the basis for the rejections under this section made in this Office action:
A person shall be entitled to a patent unless –
(a)(1) the claimed invention was patented, described in a printed publication, or in public use, on sale, or otherwise available to the public before the effective filing date of the claimed invention.
(a)(2) the claimed invention was described in a patent issued under section 151, or in an application for patent published or deemed published under section 122(b), in which the patent or application, as the case may be, names another inventor and was effectively filed before the effective filing date of the claimed invention.
Claims 1-4, 12-13, 17-18 and 20 are rejected under 35 U.S.C. 102(a)(1) as being anticipated by US 10,686,146 B2 to Yen et al.
Regarding claim 1, Yen et al. discloses an OLED comprising, as a phosphorescent dopant in the EML, a paracyclophane-based iridium complex exemplified by

(see Table 1). These compounds are representative of the claimed compound and claim 1 is therefore anticipated. So are claims 2-4, 12-13 and 17. The features of claim 18 are disclosed in columns 28-30, and those of claim 20 in columns 1-2.
Claims 1-4, 12-13 and 17-20 are rejected under 35 U.S.C. 102(a)(2) as being anticipated by US 2024/0196731 A1 to Ahn et al.
Regarding claim 1, Ahn et al. discloses an OLED wherein the EML comprises an electron-transporting host material, a hole-transporting material, and an organometallic dopant having a general structure of

An example of the dopant is the following

This compound is representative of the claimed compound and claim 1 is therefore anticipated. So are claims 2-4, 12-13 and 17. The features of claims 18-19 can be found in the examples and pages 64+ (e.g., compound ETH 66 is identical to the last compound in claim 19), and those of claim 20 can be seen from figures 4-6.
Other Prior Art of Record
The compound of claim 1 is disclosed in numerous references. One notable document is WO 2011/107491 A1 to Johannes et al., which discloses an OLED comprising, as a phosphorescent dopant in the EML, an iridium or platinum complex exemplified by

(p. 16). This compound is representative of the claimed compound.
Allowable Subject Matter
Claims 5-11 objected to as being dependent upon a rejected base claim, but would be allowable if rewritten in independent form including all of the limitations of the base claim and any intervening claims.
The following is a statement of reasons for the indication of allowable subject matter: The claimed compounds are not disclosed, suggested or made obvious by the prior art of record.
