DETAILED ACTION
1. This is the first action on the merits relating to U.S. Application Serial No. 18/530,579 filed on December 6, 2023. Currently claims 1-20 remain in the examination.
Notice of Pre-AIA or AIA Status
2. The present application, filed on or after March 16, 2013, is being examined under the first inventor to file provisions of the AIA .
Drawings
3. Drawings originally filed on December 16, 2023 are approved.
Claim Rejections - 35 USC § 102
4. In the event the determination of the status of the application as subject to AIA 35 U.S.C. 102 and 103 (or as subject to pre-AIA 35 U.S.C. 102 and 103) is incorrect, any correction of the statutory basis (i.e., changing from AIA to pre-AIA ) for the rejection will not be considered a new ground of rejection if the prior art relied upon, and the rationale supporting the rejection, would be the same under either status.
5. The following is a quotation of the appropriate paragraphs of 35 U.S.C. 102 that form the basis for the rejections under this section made in this Office action:
A person shall be entitled to a patent unless –
(a)(1) the claimed invention was patented, described in a printed publication, or in public use, on sale, or otherwise available to the public before the effective filing date of the claimed invention.
6. Claims 1-5 and 14 are rejected under 35 U.S.C. 102(a)(1) as being anticipated by US 12,636,971 B1 to Logvinov (hereinafter “Logvinov”).
Regarding claim 1, Logvinov discloses an electric vehicle (EV) charger 102 (see figures 1 or 4; and col. 6, lines 25+) comprising a poultry of input connectors 126 and 116; and a power processing circuit 118 connected to the input connectors 126 and 116; and the connector 126 is for DC power (col. 7, lines 54+); and the connector 116 is for AC power (col. 6, lines 40+); and the controller 118 is connected to the type 1 plug 120 which provides both AC and DC power for the EV 104 (see figures 1 or 4 and col. 6, lines 54+).
Regarding claim 2, as shown in figure 1, the plurality of input connectors 116 and 126 are connected to the home breaker box panel 106 (col. 4, lines 44-56; and col. 6, lines 40+) and the house breaker is connected to the meter 108.
Regarding claim 3, as shown in figure 1, first input connector 126 is for DC and the second input connector 116 is for AC, and type 1 plug 120 provides both AC and DC to the EV 104 (see figure 1 or figure 4).
Regarding claims 4 and 5, AC charger wiring may provide split-phase power to EV charging circuity 116 providing two AC powers (col. 6, lines 40-54) and the AC charging circuit 116 provides AC power output in the type 1 plug 120 (col. 6, lines 54+).
Regarding claim 14, see the description for claim 1 above. The method is further described in figure 2 (see figure 2 and col. 8, lines 60+).
Allowable Subject Matter
7. Claim 20 is allowed.
8. Claims 6-13 and 15-19 are objected to as being dependent upon a rejected base claim, but would be allowable if rewritten in independent form including all of the limitations of the base claim and any intervening claims.
9. The following is a statement of reasons for the indication of allowable subject matter: Claims are directed at an electric vehicle (EV) charger, comprising:
a plurality of input connectors configured to receive at least two power supplies;
a power processing circuit connected to the plurality of input connectors and configured to process the at least two power supplies to provide at least one of an alternating current (AC) power output or a direct current (DC) power output for charging an EV through a charging connector; and
a control circuit configured to control the power processing circuit and communicate with the EV for coordinating the charging of the EV based on the at least one of the AC power output or the DC power output; and wherein the at least two power supplies include a first AC power supply and a second AC power supply; and
wherein: the first AC power supply comes from an electricity meter and the second AC power supply comes from a circuit breaker panel that is connected to the electricity meter; or
the second AC power supply comes from the electricity meter and the first AC power supply comes from the circuit breaker panel that is connected to the electricity meter.
Above is a combination of claims 1, 3, and 8. An EV charger comprising at least two AC power supply wherein the first AC power supply comes from an electricity meter and the second AC power supply comes from a circuit breaker panel that is connected to the electricity meter; or the second AC power supply comes from the electricity meter and the first AC power supply comes from the circuit breaker panel that is connected to the electricity meter is neither disclosed nor suggested by the cited references. The limitations in other objected claims and the allowed claim are also allowable.
