The present application, filed on or after March 16, 2013, is being examined under the first inventor to file provisions of the AIA .
Claim Rejections - 35 USC § 102
The following is a quotation of the appropriate paragraphs of 35 U.S.C. 102 that form the basis for the rejections under this section made in this Office action:
A person shall be entitled to a patent unless –
(a)(1) the claimed invention was patented, described in a printed publication, or in public use, on sale, or otherwise available to the public before the effective filing date of the claimed invention.
Claim(s) 21 is/are rejected under 35 U.S.C. 102(a)(1) as anticipated by or, in the alternative, under 35 U.S.C. 103 as obvious over Matsuoka (US2010/0183223).
To claim 21, Matsuoka teach a computer-implemented method for compressing a digital image, the method being performed by one or more computer systems and comprising:
receiving a digital image with a plurality of color types, wherein the digital image is to be compressed (paragraph 0012);
receiving an approximation function and coefficients associated therewith, wherein the approximation function approximates a color value of a one color type of the plurality of color types based on at least two or more other color types of the plurality of color types, wherein the approximation is independent of pixel positions of the digital image (paragraphs 0033-0035, 0042-0044, wherein it is interpreted that pixel position plays no role in calculation as nothing relevant is disclosed);
compressing the digital image by replacing color values of the one color type within the digital image with the approximation function and the selected set of coefficients associated with the one color type (paragraphs 0009, 0017, 0237); and
transmitting and/or storing the compressed digital image (paragraphs 0090, 0097, 0250-0251, 0259).
Allowable Subject Matter
Claims 1-20 are allowed.
The following is an examiner’s statement of reasons for allowance: no prior art has been found to fully teach the specifically claimed computer implemented method for image compression.
Any comments considered necessary by applicant must be submitted no later than the payment of the issue fee and, to avoid processing delays, should preferably accompany the issue fee. Such submissions should be clearly labeled “Comments on Statement of Reasons for Allowance.”
