DETAILED ACTION Notice of Pre-AIA or AIA Status 1. The present application, filed on or after March 16, 2013, is being examined under the first inventor to file provisions of the AIA . 2. Claims 1-20 are pending in this application. Priority 3. Acknowledgement is made of applicant’s claim for foreign priority based on application JP 2023-135691 filed on 08/23/2023 under 35 U.S.C 119(a)-(d). Drawings 4. The drawing has been filed on 02/26/2024 are acceptable for examination purpose. Information Disclosure Statement 5. The information disclosure statement filed on 02/26/2024 is in compliance with the provision of the 37 CFR 1.97 and therefore has been considered. 35 USC § 112, 6th paragraph As to the claims, claim limitations a loading unit on which media are loadable in an up-down direction…., an air supply unit that supplies air to a plurality of the media loaded on the loading unit…., a sending unit that sequentially sends the media that are floated and separated by the air supply unit…., a photographing unit that photographs a state in which the media are floated…., an irradiation unit that irradiates side portions of the media with light…., an adjusting unit that adjusts an angle of the light irradiating the media from the irradiation unit….have been interpreted under 35 U.S.C. 112(f) or pre-AIA 35 U.S.C. 112, sixth paragraph, because it uses/they use a generic placeholder(s) “a loading unit, an air supply unit, a sending unit, a photographing unit, an irradiation unit, an adjusting unit” (a loading unit on which media are loadable in an up-down direction…., an air supply unit that supplies air to a plurality of the media loaded on the loading unit…., a sending unit that sequentially sends the media that are floated and separated by the air supply unit…., a photographing unit that photographs a state in which the media are floated…., an irradiation unit that irradiates side portions of the media with light…., an adjusting unit that adjusts an angle of the light irradiating the media from the irradiation unit….) coupled with functional language, capable of, to, etc. without reciting sufficient structure to achieve the function. Furthermore, the generic placeholder is not preceded by a structural modifier. Since the claim limitation(s) invokes 35 U.S.C. 112(f) or pre-AIA 35 U.S.C. 112, sixth paragraph, at least the claims containing the limitations described above has/have been interpreted to cover the corresponding structure described in the specification that achieves the claimed function, and equivalents thereof. A review of the specification shows that the following appears to be the respective corresponding structure described in the specification for the 35 U.S.C. 112(f) or pre-AIA 35 U.S.C. 112, sixth paragraph limitation: (figs. 1A-B, 5, 10 & paras., 0031-0034, 0055-0062 of the filed specification at least discloses that the controller 50 inherently or obviously realized to control and execute the functions as/of the loading unit 12, the air supply unit 14, the sending unit 16, the photographing unit 18, the irradiation unit 22, the adjusting unit 24). If applicant wishes to provide further explanation or dispute the examiner’s interpretation of the corresponding structure, applicant must identify the corresponding structure with reference to the specification by page and line number, and to the drawing, if any, by reference characters in response to this Office action. If applicant does not intend to have the claim limitation(s) treated under 35 U.S.C. 112(f) or pre-AIA 35 U.S.C. 112 , sixth paragraph, applicant may amend the claim(s) so that it/they will clearly not invoke 35 U.S.C. 112(f) or pre-AIA 35 U.S.C. 112, sixth paragraph, or present a sufficient showing that the claim recites/recite sufficient structure, material, or acts for performing the claimed function to preclude application of 35 U.S.C. 112(f) or pre-AIA 35 U.S.C. 112, sixth paragraph. For more information, see MPEP § 2173 et seq. and Supplementary Examination Guidelines for Determining Compliance With 35 U.S.C. 112 and for Treatment of Related Issues in Patent Applications, 76 FR 7162, 7167 (Feb. 9, 2011).
