DETAILED ACTION
Notice of Pre-AIA or AIA Status
The present application, filed on or after March 16, 2013, is being examined under the first inventor to file provisions of the AIA .
Specification
The abstract of the disclosure is objected to because of the following problems.
Lines 1-2, the second occurring “a mother board, a storage card” should be -- the mother board, the storage card” because line 1 already recites, “a mother board and a storage card”.
Line 2, “The mother board connector” should be -- A mother board connector -- because there is insufficient antecedent basis for this limitation in the claim.
Line 3, “The storage card connector” should be -- A storage card connector -- because there is insufficient antecedent basis for this limitation in the claim.
Line 4, “The connecting cable” should be -- A connecting cable -- because there is insufficient antecedent basis for this limitation in the claim.
A corrected abstract of the disclosure is required and must be presented on a separate sheet, apart from any other text. See MPEP § 608.01(b).
The title of the invention is not descriptive. A new title is required that is clearly indicative of the invention to which the claims are directed.
The following title is suggested: TESTING CABLE FOR CONNECTING A MOTHER BOARD WITH A STORAGE CARD.
The disclosure is objected to because of the following informalities:
Paragraph [0018], line 1, the first occurring abbreviation “PCIe” should be written with a full terminology with the abbreviation enclosed within a parenthesis.
Paragraph [0027], line 2, the first occurring abbreviation “UV” should be written with a full terminology with the abbreviation enclosed within a parenthesis.
Appropriate correction is required.
Claim Objections
Claim 9 is objected to because of the following informalities: Claim 9, line 3, the examiner suggests the applicant to delete the reference number “30” after “the connecting cable” because the other limitations in claim 9 do not have their corresponding reference numbers.
Appropriate correction is required.
Claim Rejections - 35 USC § 112
The following is a quotation of the first paragraph of 35 U.S.C. 112(a):
(a) IN GENERAL.—The specification shall contain a written description of the invention, and of the manner and process of making and using it, in such full, clear, concise, and exact terms as to enable any person skilled in the art to which it pertains, or with which it is most nearly connected, to make and use the same, and shall set forth the best mode contemplated by the inventor or joint inventor of carrying out the invention.
The following is a quotation of the first paragraph of pre-AIA 35 U.S.C. 112:
The specification shall contain a written description of the invention, and of the manner and process of making and using it, in such full, clear, concise, and exact terms as to enable any person skilled in the art to which it pertains, or with which it is most nearly connected, to make and use the same, and shall set forth the best mode contemplated by the inventor of carrying out his invention.
Claims 1-20 are rejected under 35 U.S.C. 112(a) or 35 U.S.C. 112 (pre-AIA ), first paragraph, as failing to comply with the enablement requirement. The claim(s) contains subject matter which was not described in the specification in such a way as to enable one skilled in the art to which it pertains, or with which it is most nearly connected, to make and/or use the invention.
In the independent claims 1 and 11, claim 1, lines 6-7 and claim 11, lines 9-10 recite, the same limitation, “a monitor located on the connecting cable and configured for monitoring the connecting cable, the mother board connector, and the storage card connector”. It is not clear how the monitor on the connecting cable is configured for monitoring the connecting cable, the mother board connector, and the storage card connector. Paragraph [0033] describes and Figure 6 clearly shows that the monitor 50 on the cable 30 only has an indicator light 51. And Paragraph [0033] further describes that when the connecting cable 30 is functional, the indicator light 51 is light on but when the connecting cable 30 is damaged, the indicator light 51 is light off. Therefore, users can determine whether the wire harness is damaged based on the status of indicator light 51. From Paragraph [0033], it is clear that the monitor 50 with the indicator light 51 only configured to monitor the status of the connecting cable 30, but not the mother board connector 10 and the storage card connector 20. In conclusion, it is not clear and not able to understand how the monitor 50 can also configured to monitor the mother board connector 10 and the storage card connector 20 along with the connecting cable 30 when the monitor 50 only monitors the status of the wire harness of the connecting cable 30.
