Office Action

§102
CTNF 18/763,546 CTNF 88824 DETAILED ACTION Notice of Pre-AIA or AIA Status 07-03-aia AIA 15-10-aia The present application, filed on or after March 16, 2013, is being examined under the first inventor to file provisions of the AIA. Continued Examination Under 37 CFR 1.114 07-42-04 AIA A request for continued examination under 37 CFR 1.114, including the fee set forth in 37 CFR 1.17(e), was filed in this application after final rejection. Since this application is eligible for continued examination under 37 CFR 1.114, and the fee set forth in 37 CFR 1.17(e) has been timely paid, the finality of the previous Office action has been withdrawn pursuant to 37 CFR 1.114. Applicant's submission filed on 30 March 2026 has been entered. Information Disclosure Statement The information disclosure statement(s) (IDS) was/were submitted on 7 January 2026 and 18 March 2026. The submission is in compliance with the provisions of 37 CFR 1.97. Accordingly, the information disclosure statement(s) is/are being considered by the examiner. Response to Arguments Applicant’s arguments with respect to claim(s) 1, 8, and 15 have been considered but are moot because the new ground of rejection does not rely on any reference applied in the prior rejection of record for any teaching or matter specifically challenged in the argument. Claim Rejections - 35 USC § 102 07-103 AIA The text of those sections of Title 35, U.S. Code not included in this action can be found in a prior Office action. 07-15-aia AIA Claim(s) 1, 8, and 15 is/are rejected under 35 U.S.C. 102 (a)(1) as being anticipated by Lee et al. (US 2022/0321894 A1) . Regarding Claims 1, 8, and 15 , Lee discloses a method of encoding/transmitting/decoding video, the method comprising: determining that a prediction mode of a current block is a merge mode and geometric partitioning is applied to the current block [Lee: ¶ [0370]: The triangular partitioning merge mode (or the geometric partitioning mode, GPM, Geometric Partitioning Mode) may mean a mode in which motion information is derived by partitioning a current block, each prediction sample is derived using the derived motion information and the prediction sample of the current block is derived by weight-summing the derived prediction samples. Here, the geometric partitioning mode may mean a mode in which the current block is partitioned into asymmetric subblocks and is predicted] ; determining motion vectors respectively for two partitioned regions of the current block from a merging candidate list [Lee: ¶ [0103] Motion information may mean information including at least one of the items including a motion vector, a reference picture index, an inter prediction indicator, a prediction list utilization flag, reference picture list information, a reference picture, a motion vector candidate, a motion vector candidate index, a merge candidate, and a merge index] ; obtaining, from a bitstream, motion vector difference information respectively corresponding to the two partitioned regions, wherein the motion vector difference information includes a first index for indicating one among a plurality of pre-defined distances and a second index for indicating one among a plurality of pre-defined directions [Lee: ¶ [0345] In the merge-with-MVD (MMVD) mode, a motion vector of motion information of a merge candidate selected by a decoded merge index may be corrected based on correction information and then used as the motion information of the current block. Here, the correction information may include at least one of correction direction information mmvd_direction_idx or correction distance information] ; generating inter-prediction blocks respectively for the two partitioned regions by using refined motion vectors [Lee: ¶[0408] The additional correction may mean a process (decoder motion vector refinement (DMVR)) of correcting motion information having minimum SAD by searching a predefined area based on a reference block indicated by motion information derived from merge index information “0” in a decoder] ; and generating a prediction block of the current block by combining or weighted averaging the inter-prediction blocks for the two partitioned regions [Lee: ¶ [0204] In case of a planar mode, when generating a prediction block of a current block, according to a position of a prediction target sample within a prediction block, a sample value of the prediction target sample may be generated by using a weighted sum of an upper and left side reference sample of a current block, and a right upper side and left lower side reference sample of the current block; and ¶ [0370]] , wherein the refined motion vectors are generated independently for each of the two partitioned regions by applying the corresponding motion vector difference information to the respective motion vectors for the two partitioned regions [Lee: ¶ [0066]: In addition, the unit may mean a subdivided unit when a single image is partitioned into subdivided units during encoding or decoding. That is, an image may be partitioned into a plurality of units. When encoding and decoding an image, a predetermined process for each unit may be performed] .
