CTNF 18/814,116 CTNF 81435 DETAILED ACTION Notice of Pre-AIA or AIA Status 07-03-aia AIA 15-10-aia The present application, filed on or after March 16, 2013, is being examined under the first inventor to file provisions of the AIA. Election/Restrictions 08-25-01 AIA Applicant’s election without traverse of Invention I and Species B in the reply filed on 01 May 2026 is acknowledged. 08-06 AIA Claim s 1, 5, and 7 are withdrawn from further consideration pursuant to 37 CFR 1.142(b) as being drawn to a nonelected Invention / Species , there being no allowable generic or linking claim. Election was made without traverse in the reply filed on 01 May 2026 . Information Disclosure Statement The information disclosure statement (IDS) submitted on 23 August 2024 has been considered by the examiner. Claim Objections 07-29-01 AIA Claim 6 is objected to because of the following informalities: in line 2, “for each of types of the printing medium” is grammatically incorrect, and should be amended to read -- for each type of the printing medium --. Also, note that there is insufficient antecedent basis for this limitation in the claim, since there is no indication of there being more than one type of printing medium on the claims before it . Appropriate correction is required. Claim Rejections - 35 USC § 102 07-06 AIA 15-10-15 In the event the determination of the status of the application as subject to AIA 35 U.S.C. 102 and 103 (or as subject to pre-AIA 35 U.S.C. 102 and 103) is incorrect, any correction of the statutory basis (i.e., changing from AIA to pre-AIA) for the rejection will not be considered a new ground of rejection if the prior art relied upon, and the rationale supporting the rejection, would be the same under either status. 07-07-aia AIA 07-07 The following is a quotation of the appropriate paragraphs of 35 U.S.C. 102 that form the basis for the rejections under this section made in this Office action: A person shall be entitled to a patent unless – 07-08-aia AIA (a)(1) the claimed invention was patented, described in a printed publication, or in public use, on sale, or otherwise available to the public before the effective filing date of the claimed invention. 07-12-aia AIA (a)(2) the claimed invention was described in a patent issued under section 151, or in an application for patent published or deemed published under section 122(b), in which the patent or application, as the case may be, names another inventor and was effectively filed before the effective filing date of the claimed invention. 07-15 AIA Claim s 2-4 and 6 are rejected under 35 U.S.C. 102( a)(1)/(a)(2 ) as being anticipated by Imori (JP 2000-351261.) Regarding claim 1, Imori discloses a calibration method for correcting an inter-apparatus difference among a plurality of printing apparatuses [paragraph 0022; the multiple printing heads that form reference patterns 10a-10d may be considered printing apparatuses (i.e. one printing head for each color); please note that the claimed limitation may be interpreted in various ways] configured to perform printing on a printing medium using a printing agent by attaching the printing agent to the printing medium [implicit from paragraphs 0008 and 0030], the plurality of printing apparatuses each having a plurality of density settings including a standard density setting serving as a standard of a density, with respect to the density of the printing agent attached to the printing medium [paragraphs 0021 and 0024], and the calibration method comprising: printing standard density setting patterns [102 / 10a-10d in fig. 1] on the printing medium with the standard density setting, using at least two of the plurality of printing apparatuses [implicit that each color will be printed by its corresponding printing head]; printing a density setting pattern [103 / 13a-13d in fig. 1] for each of the plurality of density settings, using another one of the plurality of printing apparatuses different from the printing apparatuses that printed the standard density setting pattern, among the plurality of printing apparatuses [paragraphs 0019, 0026 and 0032-0033; since the reference pattern 102 (including patterns 10a-10d) is pre-printed and is used as the standard for multiple printers, and the test pattern 103 is printed by the plurality of printing heads included in the printer that is undergoing calibration], at a position adjacent to the standard density setting pattern for each of the standard density patterns [paragraph 0021; as seen in fig. 1; the test patterns 13a-13d are printed over (i.e. are adjacent to) the reference patterns 10a-10d]; and updating the density of the density setting pattern closest to the density of the standard density setting pattern, among the plurality of density setting patterns, as the standard density setting of the other one of the plurality of printing apparatuses, in one of combinations obtained by combining one of the standard density setting patterns and a plurality of the density setting patterns adjacent to the one of the standard density setting patterns [paragraphs 0019, 0027, and 0032-0035.] Regarding claim 3, Imori further discloses wherein in each of a plurality of the combinations, the density of the density setting pattern closest to the density of the standard density setting pattern, among the plurality of density setting patterns, is regarded as a candidate density, and the highest density, among a plurality of the candidate densities, is updated as the standard density setting of the other one of the plurality of printing apparatus [paragraphs 0019, 0027, and 0032-0036.] Regarding claim 4, Imori further discloses wherein each of the plurality of printing apparatuses is configured to perform the printing on the printing medium using the printing agent of a plurality of colors, and has the plurality of density settings including the standard density setting for each of the plurality of colors of the printing agent [it is implicit and well-know that the printing heads of each color will perform a discharge operation according to printing data], and the standard density setting, of the other one of the plurality of printing apparatuses, set based on a result obtained by printing the standard density setting pattern and the plurality of density setting patterns using the printing agent of one of the plurality of colors, is updated as the standard density setting of another one of the plurality of colors [paragraphs 0019, 0027, and 0032-0036.] Regarding claim 6, Imori further discloses wherein calibration is performed for each of types of the printing medium [paragraph 0026; the reference chart 102 is created for use with either a specific type of printer, or with a standard type of printer, and it is implicit and well-known that it will be printed on a type (or types) of paper used in said specific or standard printer.] Communication with the USPTO Any inquiry concerning this communication or earlier communications from the examiner should be directed to JANNELLE M LEBRON whose telephone number is (571)272-2729.
