Office Action

§112
Notice of Pre-AIA or AIA Status The present application, filed on or after March 16, 2013, is being examined under the first inventor to file provisions of the AIA . Specification The title of the invention is not descriptive. A new title is required that is clearly indicative of the invention to which the claims are directed. Claim Rejections - 35 USC § 112 The following is a quotation of 35 U.S.C. 112(b): (b) CONCLUSION.—The specification shall conclude with one or more claims particularly pointing out and distinctly claiming the subject matter which the inventor or a joint inventor regards as the invention. The following is a quotation of 35 U.S.C. 112 (pre-AIA ), second paragraph: The specification shall conclude with one or more claims particularly pointing out and distinctly claiming the subject matter which the applicant regards as his invention. Claims 1-20 are rejected under 35 U.S.C. 112(b) or 35 U.S.C. 112 (pre-AIA ), second paragraph, as being incomplete for omitting essential elements, such omission amounting to a gap between the elements. See MPEP § 2172.01. The omitted elements are: unit(s) of measurement for length. Lone independent claim 1 recites a nip Length Ln and a heating length Lh “to satisfy a relationship, -2.5 * Ln + 75 <= Lh <= 95 and 16<=Ln<=27.” The claims therefore omit essential unit(s) of measurement necessary for defining the invention. Prior Art of Record The prior art made of record and not relied upon is considered pertinent to applicant’s disclosure. Yasuda et al. (US 12393145) disclose a length of a fixing belt satisfying a formula; Tanaka et al. (US 8391764) disclose a fixing belt having a length that meets certain conditions; Hasegawa (US 2011/0026987) discloses a fixing device with a fixing nip of adjustable length and pressure.
