DETAILED ACTION
Notice of Pre-AIA or AIA Status
The present application, filed on or after March 16, 2013, is being examined under the first inventor to file provisions of the AIA .
This is a response to the Applicants' file on 8/12/25. In virtue of this filing, claims 1-20 are currently presented in the instant application.
Information Disclosure Statement
The information disclosure statement (IDS) submitted on 8/13/25,12/8/25 are in compliance with the provisions of 37 CFR 1.97 &1.98. Accordingly, the information disclosure statements are being considered by the examiner.
Claim Rejections - 35 USC § 103
The following is a quotation of 35 U.S.C. 103 which forms the basis for all obviousness rejections set forth in this Office action:
A patent for a claimed invention may not be obtained, notwithstanding that the claimed invention is not identically disclosed as set forth in section 102, if the differences between the claimed invention and the prior art are such that the claimed invention as a whole would have been obvious before the effective filing date of the claimed invention to a person having ordinary skill in the art to which the claimed invention pertains. Patentability shall not be negated by the manner in which the invention was made.
Claims 1-2 are rejected under 35 U.S.C. 103 as being unpatentable over by Zudrell-Koch (US Pub.No: 2015/0237694) in view of Petting et al (US Pub. No: 2012/0299480).
With respect to claim 1, Zudrell-Koch disclose in figures 1-4 and 7 that, an LED lamp lighting system, comprising: a driving circuit (figures 3a-3b, 107,103,117), an LED module(115) and a demodulating module(102,108,109,110,11,112 or 110,109,112)(see abstract, paragraphs [79-80,, wherein the demodulating module(102,108,109,110,11,112 or 110,109,11210) is electrically connected to an external power supply(AC main voltage and dimmer unit(50))) and is configured to generate a dimming control signal by extracting dimming information included in a received external power signal(paragraphs [8-12,24-27]); wherein the driving circuit (107,103,117,112)is electrically connected to the external power supply(AC main and the dimmer unit(50)) and the demodulating module(102,108,109,110,11,112 or 110,109,112), and is configured to convert the received external power signal to generate a driving power supply(107,103,117,112)), and adjust the driving power supply based on the dimming control signal; and wherein the LED module(115) is electrically connected to the driving circuit(107,103,117,112) to receive the driving power supply and light up. Paragraphs [55-82].
Zudrell-Koch do not explicitly disclose the AC main and the dimmer unit (50) as called an
external power supply as shown in figures 3a-3b.
Petting et al, in the same field of endeavor, disclose an external power supply (410) as shown in
figure 4A.
It would have been obvious for one of ordinary skill in the art before the effective filing date of the claimed invention to incorporate the external power supply of Petting et al into the dimming main voltage of Zudrell-koch to provide high voltage source for drive circuit.
With respect to claim 2, Zudrell-Koch as modified claim 1 above that, wherein the dimming information is a phase-cut angle of the external power signal (paragraph [68]) and paragraph [104] for a conduction angle between 0 and 180 degrees for the half-cycle can be determined.
Zudrell-Koch as modified claim 1 above, does not explicitly disclose wherein the phase-cut angle is not larger than 90 degrees when the LED module lighting up with a minimum luminance.
This different is not patentable merit, since select 90 degrees for minimum luminance is well-known for design choice and dimmer of Zudrell-Kock is capable of performing, since it has been held to be within the general skill of a worker in the art to select different degree for theminimum luminance in the dimming main voltage on the basis of its suitability for the intended use as a matter of obvious design choice.
Allowable Subject Matter
Claims 3-20 are objected to as being dependent upon a rejected base claim, but would be allowable if rewritten in independent form including all of the limitations of the base claim and any intervening claims.
Citation of pertinent prior art
The prior art made of record and not relied upon is considered pertinent to applicants' disclosure. See prior arts/references listed on the PTO-892 form attached.
