Notice of Pre-AIA or AIA Status
The present application, filed on or after March 16, 2013, is being examined under the first inventor to file provisions of the AIA .
Claim Rejections - 35 USC § 102
The following is a quotation of the appropriate paragraphs of 35 U.S.C. 102 that form the basis for the rejections under this section made in this Office action:
A person shall be entitled to a patent unless –
(a)(2) the claimed invention was described in a patent issued under section 151, or in an application for patent published or deemed published under section 122(b), in which the patent or application, as the case may be, names another inventor and was effectively filed before the effective filing date of the claimed invention.
Claims 1 and 5 are rejected under 35 U.S.C. 102(a2) as being anticipated by Mason et al. (US 2021/0226361).
Regarding claim 1, Mason et al. disclose an electrical connector with a high speed mounting interface for mounting the electrical connector (104) to a substrate (102), the electrical connector comprising:
a plurality of pairs of signal conductors (200), wherein for each of the plurality of pairs, each signal conductor of the pair comprises:
a mating contact portion (not show, hidden inside the connector housing);
a contact tail (234) exposed at the mounting interface; and
an intermediate portion (not show, a portion that connecting the mating contact portion and the tail portion) coupling the mating contact portion to the contact tail,
wherein the signal conductor comprise a compliant portion (230) configured to generate a force pressing the contact tail towards the substrate when the mounting interface of the electrical connector is pressed against the substrate such that the signal conductor is configured for pressure mounting to a pad on a surface of the substrate; and
electromagnetic shielding (110) comprising tails (146) exposed at the mounting interface, wherein the tails are configured for insertion into holes (154) in the surface of the substrate and are disposed such that four tails of the electromagnetic shielding are adjacent contact tails of each of the plurality of pairs of signal conductors and.
Regarding claim 5, Mason et al. disclose the tails of the electromagnetic shielding are press-fits.
Allowable Subject Matter
Claims 2-4, 6-8 are objected to as being dependent upon a rejected base claim, but would be allowable if rewritten in independent form including all of the limitations of the base claim and any intervening claims.
Claims 9-30 are allowed. The claims are allowed per Applicant’s argument in the Remark filed on 3/19/26.
