Office Action

§102
CTNF 18/312,457 CTNF 83866 Notice of Pre-AIA or AIA Status 07-03-aia AIA 15-10-aia The present application, filed on or after March 16, 2013, is being examined under the first inventor to file provisions of the AIA. DETAILED ACTION Claim Rejections - 35 USC § 102 07-07-aia AIA 07-07 The following is a quotation of the appropriate paragraphs of 35 U.S.C. 102 that form the basis for the rejections under this section made in this Office action: A person shall be entitled to a patent unless – 07-12-aia AIA (a)(2) the claimed invention was described in a patent issued under section 151, or in an application for patent published or deemed published under section 122(b), in which the patent or application, as the case may be, names another inventor and was effectively filed before the effective filing date of the claimed invention. 07-15-03-aia AIA Claim s 1-4, 6, 8-10, 12-15, 17, and 19 are rejected under 35 U.S.C. 102(a)(2) as being anticipated by Park et al. (US 2023/0172055). Park has a filing date of 6/17/22, which is before Applicants (unperfected) foreign priority date and qualifies as prior art under 102(a)(2). Additionally, the subject matter disclosed in Park et al. is also fully supported in the foreign priority documents which were filed in 11/26/21 and 12/14/21 . Claim 12: Park et al. teaches compound P-6, which has the structure PNG media_image1.png 200 174 media_image1.png Greyscale (page 144). This compound anticipates Formula 1 of claim 1. As applied to Formula 1, compound P-6 has n1 equal to 1, L 1 equal to an unsubstituted o -phenylene group, n2 is equal to 1, Ar 1 is equal to a phenyl-substituted naphthyl group, Ar 2 and Ar 3 are equal to methyl groups, and all of R 1 through R 8 are equal to hydrogen atoms. Claim 13: In compound P-6, the phenyl-substituted naphthyl group as Ar 1 also anticipates Formula A1-7 of claim 13 with a1 equal to 1 and R 21 is an unsubstituted phenyl group. Claims 14 and 15: Compound P-6 also anticipates Formula 1-1B of claim 14 and Formula 1-2A of claim 15 with all variable assignments being described in claim 12 above. Claim 17: Compound P-6 above also anticipates Formula 1-3A of claim 17 with all variable assignments being described in claim 12 above. Claim 19: Compound P-6 above also anticipates Formula 1-3AD of claim 19 with R 13 and R 16 equal to hydrogen atoms and all other variable assignments being described in claim 12 above. Claims 1, 9, and 10: The rejection of claim 1 above is wholly incorporated into claim 1. The compounds taught by Park et al., including compound P-6 are taught as being suitable as hole transport materials in organic electroluminescent devices. The exemplified devices comprise an anode, a hole injection layer, a hole transport layer, an emission layer, a hole blocking layer, an electron transport layer, an electron injection layer, and a cathode (paragraphs 0234-0237 and Table 1). While Table 1 does not exemplify compound P-6 as a hole transport material, compound P-6 is explicitly taught as being suitable in such a role. The employment of any one of the explicitly taught compounds of Park et al., including compound P-6 in the manner taught in the device examples is at once envisaged. A device comprising compound P-6 according to Park et al. anticipates all of the device and structural limitations of claims 1, 9, and 10. Claim 2: The rejection of claim 13 above is wholly incorporated into the rejection of claim 2. Claims 3 and 4: The rejection of claims 14 and 15 above are wholly incorporated into the rejection of claims 3 and 4. Claim 6: The rejection of claim 17 above is wholly incorporated into the rejection of claim 6. Claim 8: The rejection of claim 19 above is wholly incorporated into the rejection of claim 8 . Allowable Subject Matter 12-151-08 AIA 07-43 12-51-08 Claim s 5, 7, 11, 16, 18, and 20 are objected to as being dependent upon a rejected base claim, but would be allowable if rewritten in independent form including all of the limitations of the base claim and any intervening claims.
