Office Action

§112
Detailed Action Notice of Pre-AIA or AIA Status The present application, filed on or after March 16, 2013, is being examined under the first inventor to file provisions of the AIA . Election/Restrictions Applicant’s election without traverse of group II (Claims 9-16), methods of generating hologram in the reply filed on04/01/2026 is acknowledged. The examiner appreciates applicant’s clear understanding of the erroneously indicated claims for the group II and correctly electing the right claims for the group II. Claim Rejections - 35 USC § 112 The following is a quotation of 35 U.S.C. 112(b): (b) CONCLUSION.—The specification shall conclude with one or more claims particularly pointing out and distinctly claiming the subject matter which the inventor or a joint inventor regards as the invention. The following is a quotation of 35 U.S.C. 112 (pre-AIA ), second paragraph: The specification shall conclude with one or more claims particularly pointing out and distinctly claiming the subject matter which the applicant regards as his invention. Claims 9-16 are rejected under 35 U.S.C. 112(b) or 35 U.S.C. 112 (pre-AIA ), second paragraph, as being indefinite for failing to particularly point out and distinctly claim the subject matter which the inventor or a joint inventor (or for applications subject to pre-AIA 35 U.S.C. 112, the applicant), regards as the invention. As to the claim 9, the claim recites “A method of generating a hologram, comprising:” However, the body of claim does not further clarify how the claimed method are correlated with the generation of the hologram. The claim only recites how to correct distortion of the complex modulation SLM. i.e., the claim is missing a clear connection between the claimed generation of hologram from the distortion corrected SLM. Therefore, one of ordinary skill in the art would not be reasonably apprised of the scope of the invention. For the examination purposes, examiner would interpret that the hologram being generated using the distortion corrected complex modulation SLM. Claims 10-16 have been rejected also based upon their dependencies. Allowable Subject Matter Claims 9-16 are objected to as being dependent upon a rejected base claim, but would be allowable if rewritten in independent form including all of the limitations of the base claim and any intervening claims Claims 9-16 would be allowable if rewritten or amended to overcome the rejection(s) under 35 U.S.C. 112, 2nd paragraph, set forth in this Office action. As to claim 9, Yoon et al. (US 20210279951 A1) teaches a method of generating a hologram (abstract), generating hologram using amplitude and phase modulation (complex value modulation) scheme of a complex modulation SLM ([0092]). And Cable et al. (US 20120008181 A1) teaches wavefront sensing hologram being displayed with different pattern of pixel phase values on the SLM and distortion correction by measuring relation between phase gradient and spot position. However, none of the prior art alone or in combination disclose or teach of generating hologram by measuring an intensity and a phase of a complex light wavefront that is output from a complex modulation spatial light modulator (SLM); determining characteristic information of the complex light wavefront by analyzing the measured intensity and phase of the complex light wavefront; creating distortion correction information for correcting distortion of the complex light wavefront from an artificial neural network by inputting the characteristic information to the artificial neural network; and feeding back the distortion correction information to the complex modulation SLM. Claims 10-16 are indicated as allowable due to their dependencies only.
